IPM (Intelligent Power Management)
IPM Overview
Since electric power crisis in Indonesia, the utility power company (PLN) can not provide the much more power needed by cellular operator which apply full traffic configuration.
The objective of IPM applied at Radio Base Station is to reduce the total power consumption provided by mains utility power company (PLN).
Due to rapid demand of cellular subscribers in Indonesia, cellular operators must implement more traffic configuration. Additional traffic configuration means add more radio base station equipment. Add more equipment means add more power. It means that the power exceeds maximum power provided by PLN and circuit breaker will be trip.
IPM is a solution to overcome this problem. IPM has an intelligent microcontroller that can measure the behavior of power consumption of RBS. If the power consumption reaches under threshold value then all equipment can start together.
Benefits of IPM
1. Power Saving

The implementation IPM allows us to run 4 RBS without increasing PLN power contracted.

In some situations, if the existence of genset is needed, it will minimize the size of genset that will end up to the minimization of energy consumption and cost.

Energy saving will be significant number for the site where PLN interruption is frequently occur.
2. Improving Reliability

IPM minimizes power and current drawn in the beginning of PLN restore. It will avoid the CB trip that will decrease the reliability of power supply.

IPM controls the charging current to the battery bellow the maximum recommended value. It will lengthen the life time of battery and consequently will increase the reliability of backup power supply.

In the case of 4 unit RBS applied with 23.5 kVA PLN power, IPM will tolerate the AC input voltage of 120 VAC per phase without any tripping.
